In many ancient societies, horses seem to have been considered divine. The case of the Celtic horse goddess, EPONA, "the divine mare", is of course well known.
They can play several roles:
Today, we still find the "horse-headed" god, Hayagriva (हयग्रीव), who is a form of Vishnu, considered to be the god of wisdom and knowledge. |
