Trolleybuses are great: electric buses and no need for environmentally unfriendly batteries. They've existed for over 100 years and often replaced tramways between 1930 and 1960, before they themselves became victims of 'modernisation'. There are sill a number of trolleybus systems, notably in most cities in Switzerland, but also some cities in Austria (e.g. Salzburg), France (e.g., Lyon), Germany (e.g., Esslingen, Solingen), and many more.
