THIRONA ICONOGRAPHY | ICONOGRAPHIE
Above all, Đirona/Thirona seems to have been a healing goddess. We often find her side-by-side with Apollo - notably Apollo Grannus.

Etymology of Đirona/Sirona/Thirona | Etymologie:
  • Some inscriptions from Roman times do actually use "Đ", the so-called Tau Gallicum; other inscriptions use variant spellings: Sirona and Thirona.
  • Conventional etymology suggests that the stem means 'star' with suffix -ona, as in Epona, Matrona, etc., i.e. the 'star goddess', but is this really the case?

  • Her iconography seems to be largely adapted from the Greek goddess Hygieia, the Roman Salus, including the serpent.

DSTRIBUTION
There are quite a few inscriptions dedicated to Sirona / Thirona / Dirona, also spelled Serona.
She is attested over a large territory, from south.west Gaul to the Danube provinces. There is even a dedication to her and Apollo Grannus from Rome:
Apollini / Granno et / Sanctae / Sironae / sacrum
(CIL VI 36 (add. p 3003, 3755, 4097) = ILS 4652) .
